To take advantage of the impressive views from this property over the Firth of Forth, the original house was built with the family rooms on the first floor, and the bedrooms on the ground floor. In order to better guide visitors to the public rooms on the first floor, alterations were made to reconfigure the first-floor landing to widen the hallway and add rooflights to bring in more natural light at high level, leading the eye upwards into this brighter entrance atrium space.
