Single storey extension to the rear of an existing detached property in Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire. The brief for this extension was to create a new garden room which was connected to the main ground floor layout but would allow a better connection to the rear garden. The existing garden levels fall steeply to the rear, meaning that the clients must descend a flight of stairs to reach the garden. By creating an extension with an internal staircase, the clients now have a split level family space to dine, relax and play in. Internally, a balcony was formed in the existing window on the rear elevation to allow a connection between the two levels. Roof lights along with tall windows and bi-folding doors create a light, bright space to be enjoyed in all weathers, all year round.
