Work Starts at Port Ellen

02 August 2023

Our team celebrated a milestone at our Port Ellen community project this week, with the first of our regular site meetings taking place on Islay.  Preparatory work is well under way by main contractor Procast, who have established site accommodation and the initial site clearances.  A few unexpected things have been quickly dealt with and supplies are being lined up to progress at pace while the weather is still favourable!

The project will provide a new community cafe, flexible rentable meeting rooms, and a commercial kitchen and bakery.  Externally the popular children’s play area will be relocated, and new landscaping installed with more parking for cars, and a dedicated motorhome parking area to provide more space for campervans which are popular on the island.

Bruach Architects are architect, lead consultant, principal designer, and contract administrator on the £1.9m project.  The design team brings a range of experience on community and leisure buildings – we are really excited to be working alongside quantity surveyors Armour Construction Consultants, civil and structural engineers Narro Associates, and services engineers Kilbryde Consulting Engineers.
