Planning Approved for Bay Street
08 February 2023
Bruach were delighted to receive formal planning approval this week for our development at Bay Street in Port Glasgow. The works include the construction of 24 flats in one common close block within an existing brownfield site.
This tricky site had many barriers to overcome including the site being triangular in shape, various no build zones due to services, and not to mention the fact that the works are proposed in front of the historic Ropeworks building.
The dominating brick building known as The Ropeworks, defines the arrival to Port Glasgow from the East. The building was originally a sugar refinery before becoming the home of The Gourock Ropeworks Company in 1886, who produced sails and ropes for the ships. Where many of the historic industrial buildings have disappeared from the local landscape, the Ropeworks has
continued to hold a prominent position in Port Glasgow.
The proposed development aims to be sympathetic to the historic Ropeworks building by complimenting the prominent brick of the facade, whilst also reflecting the adjacent modern residential scheme to the west of The Ropeworks.
We can’t wait to see this project begin construction later this year!
