Client Spotlight | St. Philip’s School
06 May 2025
Sometimes it is important to take a step back and celebrate our accomplishments and Team Bruach would like to take a moment to celebrate our longstanding relationship with St. Philip’s School in Airdrie.
St. Philip’s School provide a range of residential care facilities, education services and day services for young people. They have been supporting children and young people for more than fifty years. They are passionate about being a great place for young people to experience the finest care and education, while encouraging young people to be the best that they can be.
St. Philip’s are an inspiration to us. The work that the team at St. Philip’s are doing is incredibly important because they are improving the lives of young people, creating a safe, supportive environment to allow them to grow and develop as individuals before they move on to live as young independent adults in the community. Every time we go to a meeting at St Philip’s we leave with a feeling that we are part of something really positive and that we are helping make a difference, which is a fantastic feeling and we are very grateful to be a part of it.
Bruach have been working with St. Philip’s School since 2018. We were originally appointed to assist with obtaining a Building Warrant for some works to one of the existing residential blocks within the campus and the relationship has continued to grow from there. Since 2018 we have worked on multiple projects some of which are complete and some which are still in development:
- The Gatehouse Project was our first project where we converted the existing gatehouse building into accessible living accommodation for a young person including a full renovation and upgrade of the building interior and exterior
- The Admin Block wherein we renovated the existing school entrance area, reception, office and board room to modernise the space and create a more welcoming environment for staff, pupils and visitors alike
- We are currently designing new spaces within the Teaching Block to create a more flexible, inspiring, learning environment for the young people including a new home economics class with attached café area and outside space for a vegetable garden, new multi-functional teaching spaces and a cinema room
- We have worked on the Loch Eil Building in 2 phases to create two self-contained flats for young people. This project was the first of its kind at St. Philip’s and was so successful it has led to further conversions in various blocks throughout the campus
- We have completed works within the Skye building to form 2 further self-contained flats for young people with private garden spaces
- We have completed works at the Beechwood Conference Centre which involved converting an unused building into a multi-purpose conference centre containing multi-functional spaces and breakout rooms to be used for staff meetings and training, offices, tea prep facilities and a reception and waiting area. Photos of this project are showcased below
Our largest project with St. Philip’s to date is currently on site, due for completion in June 2025. This project involves converting an unused vocational teaching block into 7 self-contained starter flats for young people, each with an open plan kitchen & living space, a bedroom and an ensuite. All flats will have access to their own private garden space. The building will be upgraded to meet the current building standards including accessibility and energy standards meaning the flats will be heated by renewable technology by way of an air source heat pump.
Alongside the above, works have started on site in South Lanarkshire to convert an existing farmhouse building into a new children’s residential unit to create living accommodation for 5 young people in a beautiful rural setting. This project is also due for completion early summer this year.
We would like to add a special mention to Creo Design for the above photos. Creo have been working closely with St. Philip’s with their marketing and brand identity and they have also been working behind the scenes to document their journey. We can’t wait to see the end result.
